Job Summary

This position is based at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin within the 'Art and Cultural Heritage Analysis' department. As a Research Associate, you will contribute to the ReFoPlan project focused on low-odor and low-emission indoor products. Your day-to-day responsibilities include designing and conducting emission measurements in test chambers, performing active sampling of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and analyzing samples using advanced chromatography techniques like TD-GC and HPLC. You will collaborate closely with HTW-Berlin, prepare test specimens, and support administrative project tasks such as organizing meetings and drafting scientific publications. This role is ideal for a chemist or materials scientist with strong analytical skills who enjoys working at the intersection of environmental safety and product development. The position offers a high-tech research environment, flexible working hours with up to 60% mobile work, and the opportunity to influence the development of the 'Blue Angel' environmental label.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Master's, Diploma, or equivalent) in Materials Science, Chemistry, or a comparable field. A PhD is considered an advantage.

Experience

  • Professional experience in active sampling and analysis of airborne volatile organic compounds (VVOC, VOC, SVOC)
  • Experience in the validation of measurement procedures
  • Proven track record in publishing and presenting scientific results
  • Experience with emission test chambers and air quality analysis
  • Practical experience in laboratory settings and manual technical tasks

Additional
