Job Summary

This role seeks an Instrument Scientist to join the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Research Neutron Source (FRM II) in Garching, focusing on the operation and further development of the KOMPASS triple-axis spectrometer. The successful candidate will be crucial in commissioning and characterizing the instrument, providing essential scientific and technical support to international user groups, and driving methodological advancements, particularly in neutron polarization analysis. Day-to-day work involves operating a complex technical facility dedicated to investigating dynamic processes in condensed matter, magnetism, and quantum materials. Key requirements include a natural science degree (MSc/Diploma), preferably a PhD, and professional experience in neutron scattering or related scattering methods. This position offers the opportunity to work at a world-leading neutron source in a highly collaborative, international environment, while pursuing independent scientific research.

Experience

  • Professional experience in neutron scattering or applying other scattering methods for condensed matter investigation
  • Experience in spectroscopy (advantageous)
  • Experience with the operation and setup of complex technical facilities (advantageous)
  • Experimental and technical capabilities
