Job Summary

This role offers an IT Architect the opportunity to make a significant contribution to public safety and digitalization across Germany and the EU. The architect will be instrumental in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of central, highly complex IT applications, including the National Weapons Register, the Central Register of Foreigners, and systems supporting the EU's Smart Borders Initiative and EES Regulation. Day-to-day tasks involve evolving the software architecture for a complex system landscape of over 70 systems with demanding availability requirements, often collaborating with external service providers. The position requires piloting new technologies, integrating DevOps and containerization into the existing infrastructure, and representing the Federal Office of Administration (BVA) interests in national and international working groups. Candidates must possess a strong background in IT architecture, agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban), and professional experience in complex, distributed systems, ideally within a governmental or international context.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Master or Diploma) in Computer Science or a related field; alternatively, a university degree in another field combined with relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of professional experience or knowledge in IT architecture (with Master's degree in Computer Science)
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience or knowledge in IT architecture and agile methods (with non-Computer Science degree)
  • 3 years of demonstrable professional experience in IT architecture with strong knowledge of distributed applications and complex system landscapes
  • Experience in the governmental or international environment (preferred)
  • Professional experience with agile tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence)
  • Leadership experience required (taking an active leadership role)
