Job Summary

The German Weather Service (DWD) is seeking an Engineer for the Meteorological Observatory Lindenberg (MOL-RAO) to technically coordinate operational and experimental measurement programs within the Boundary Layer Processes section. This role is crucial for monitoring the atmosphere using specialized sensors and remote sensing systems, particularly measurements up to 100 meters high. Day-to-day tasks include autonomous coordination of technical realization, conceptualizing and planning measurement solutions for scientific topics, and managing the procurement and deployment of micro-meteorological and laboratory technology. The successful candidate will also be responsible for programming modules for data processing, quality control, and visualization of complex boundary layer datasets, as well as providing technical support for complex measurement systems, including IT components, often requiring work at heights. Candidates must hold a relevant engineering degree (e.g., Environmental, Mechatronics, Electrical, or IT Engineering) and possess B2 German and B1 English language skills.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (FH Diploma/Bachelor) in a relevant engineering field (e.g., Environmental Technology, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or Information Technology)

Experience

  • Professional experience in planning, setting up, supporting, and documenting complex measurement programs/systems (preferred)
  • 3 years of relevant professional experience post-graduation is required for the higher salary group (Entgeltgruppe 12)
