Job Summary

This role involves supporting the Bavarian Environment Agency's Geological Service in digitalizing and managing vast quantities of geological data, focusing heavily on modernizing legacy data and implementing cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) applications. The specialist will be responsible for maintaining existing technical applications, including the upkeep and migration of SQL databases, and assisting in the transition to Open Source GIS environments, specifically migrating Python scripts from ESRI ArcGIS to QGIS. A key focus is identifying potential use cases for AI/ML to enhance process efficiency, followed by implementing these procedures, which may involve training commercial AI software or developing custom AI scripts. This position requires a background in Informatics, Geoinformatics, or Natural/Engineering Sciences with strong expertise in Python, SQL, and GIS, supporting critical environmental data management for internal and external stakeholders.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Diplom Univ. or Master) in Informatics / Geoinformatics or Natural Sciences / Engineering Sciences with expertise in (Geo-)Informatics or a comparable field

Experience

  • Knowledge in relational database technologies and SQL
  • Experience in Python programming
  • Experience and knowledge in the GIS area (QGIS, ArcGIS)
  • Knowledge in the application and training of AI (advantageous)
