Job Summary
This role involves independent research within a DFG-funded project focusing on process and material development for the additive manufacturing of functional composite materials, specifically using beam-based powder bed fusion. The Doctoral Researcher will be responsible for documenting, publishing, and presenting scientific results, developing processes for powder handling, and contributing to machine development for process monitoring. Key qualifications include a very successful university degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a comparable field, a strong foundational understanding of materials science, and experience in material characterization. The position requires meticulousness, self-reliance, strong teamwork, and excellent communication skills, along with very good English proficiency (written and spoken). This is a fixed-term qualifying position intended to support the completion of a doctorate, offering flexible working hours and a supportive research environment.
Required Skills
Education
University degree (Master's equivalent) in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a comparable field (very successful completion required)
Experience
- Very successful completion of university studies in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or comparable field
- Experience in material characterization
- Experience with beam-based additive manufacturing processes (e.g., Powder Bed Fusion) (Desirable)
- Initial programming experience (ideally Python) (Desirable)
- Initial experience with the CALPHAD method (Desirable)
