Job Summary

This full-time research position at the University of Wuppertal offers a unique opportunity to join the Chair of Large-Area Optoelectronics (LGOE) and the Wuppertal Center for Smart Materials & Systems (CM@S). As a Research Associate, you will engage in interdisciplinary research covering the entire development cycle of photonic components—from AI-driven simulations and manufacturing to characterization. Your day-to-day responsibilities include designing experimental setups, automating measurement devices, and simulating photonic devices. You will also have the chance to gain teaching experience and present your findings at global conferences. This role is specifically designed to support the completion of a doctoral degree (PhD), providing a structured academic environment within an international team of chemists, physicists, and engineers. Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or Physics. Must be eligible and interested in pursuing a PhD.

Experience

  • Professional experience in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or Physics
  • Experience in the conception and realization of experimental laboratory setups
  • Practical experience with simulation software or manufacturing techniques such as spin-coating or lithography is preferred
  • Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration within international research teams
  • Previous exposure to machine learning or AI methods in a scientific context is an advantage
