PhD Student in Computational Biophysics | Physiker (m/w/d)
Max-Planck-Institut für Multidisziplinäre Naturwissenschaften
Job Summary
This doctoral position within the Department of Theoretical and Computational Biophysics at the Max Planck Institute focuses on advancing the structure determination of biomolecules using single-molecule X-ray scattering data from facilities like the European XFEL. The core challenge involves overcoming the super-low signal-to-noise ratio by developing novel theoretical methods and algorithms. Day-to-day work includes applying computational physics and probability theory to derive priors for Bayesian methods, utilizing atomistic simulations and machine learning techniques. Candidates must possess, or soon complete, a Master's degree in physics, mathematics, or a related quantitative field, coupled with strong computational skills and an interest in interdisciplinary collaboration with experimental groups. This is an attractive opportunity to conduct competitive, world-class research in an inspiring international environment, utilizing state-of-the-art high-performance computing and GPU facilities.
