Job Summary

This role is for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Clinical Radiobiology working group at the GSI Helmholtz Centre in Darmstadt, focusing on ultra-high dose rate radiation therapy (FLASH). The successful candidate will design, execute, and analyze preclinical studies investigating the biological effects of FLASH on tumor treatment and normal tissue sparing, comparing various irradiation modalities. Key responsibilities include conducting experiments at GSI beamlines, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (biologists, physicists, engineers), and ensuring compliance with German and EU animal welfare regulations, including preparing animal experiment applications. This position requires a PhD in Biology or a related field, expertise in in-vivo models or radiotherapy research, and a strong publication record in radiobiology. It offers the opportunity to work within the international FAIR research environment, contributing to world-class science and mentoring students.

Required Skills

Education

PhD in Biology, Biomedicine, or a related field (ideally focused on in-vivo models or radiotherapy research); Completed course in laboratory animal science (FELASA B or equivalent)

Experience

  • Professional experience and publication record in radiobiology
  • Solid practical experience working with mice and/or rats
  • Experience in student supervision (Bachelor, Master, or PhD level)

English (Fluent)

Additional

  • Initial contract duration of 2 years; Must be available to start in April 2026; Must be able to prepare animal experiment applications according to German and EU guidelines.
