Job Summary

The Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) is seeking a Research Scientist to join the Additive Manufacturing of Metallic Components division in Berlin. This role, initially limited to 36 months and starting April 1, 2026, involves conducting and coordinating extensive research within the BMUKN-Verbundvorhaben MCGUSS-2 project, specifically focusing on investigations of SE(B) samples. Key responsibilities include theoretical work, managing a comprehensive experimental program involving material procurement, sample preparation, and mechanical testing, particularly fracture mechanics testing of ferritic spheroidal graphite cast iron using small and large samples. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating with project partners, performing statistical data analysis, conducting fractographic and metallographic investigations, and actively participating in national and international working groups. This position requires a strong background in materials science, fracture mechanics, and experimental mechanical testing, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge technical safety research.
