Job Summary

This PhD position at the University Hospital Erlangen offers a unique opportunity for a highly motivated scientist to contribute to cutting-edge research in virology and immunology. The successful candidate will primarily focus on CAR-therapy for Cytomegalovirus infections, utilizing state-of-the-art analytical techniques in virology, cell, and molecular biology, with a strong emphasis on translational studies involving preclinical mouse models. Daily tasks include independent experimental research on herpesviruses, working with recombinant pathogens in biosafety levels 1 and 2, including mouse experiments, and collaborating within an interdisciplinary team. The role also involves publishing and presenting research findings in peer-reviewed journals and at international conferences, making it ideal for someone passionate about advancing medical science and developing new therapeutic options.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or equivalent in Biology, Molecular Medicine, or a related bioscience field

Experience

  • Professional experience with state-of-the-art analytical techniques in virology, cell, and molecular biology
  • Experience with translational studies using preclinical mouse models
  • Experience in experimental research focusing on CAR-therapy of Cytomegalovirus infections (Murine Cytomegalovirus model system)
  • Experience with independent research tasks in virology, especially herpesviruses
  • Experience manufacturing and working with recombinant pathogens in biosafety levels 1 and 2, including mouse experiments
  • Experience collaborating in interdisciplinary teams
  • Experience with sterile cell culture and viruses (advantageous)
  • Experience working with mice (Felasa B certificate advantageous)
  • Interest/experience with modern imaging technologies and methods (advantageous)
  • Interest/experience with simple bioinformatic work and adoptive immunotherapy procedures (advantageous)
