Job Summary

This role is a unique opportunity for a Scientific Researcher to lead a small team focused on Non-Target Screening (NTS) of suspended matter and biota samples using advanced GC-HRMS technology within the Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG). The core responsibilities involve developing new statistical methods and chemoinformatic software solutions for processing and analyzing large mass spectrometry datasets. Key tasks include optimizing data preparation, applying statistical methods to characterize sampling sites, and identifying environmentally relevant substances. The position requires a Master's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, or a related field, along with strong programming skills (R, Python, Julia, or MATLAB), experience with databases (ideally NoSQL), and expertise in environmental analytics. The researcher will also be responsible for project planning, publishing scientific results, presenting at conferences, and mentoring junior researchers, making it an ideal environment for applied environmental research.
