Job Summary

This role is for an experienced Operations Manager to drive the conceptual design, operation, and service development of High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems within the hpcFachCluster.nrw initiative at the Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing (PC²). The successful candidate will be instrumental in adapting and evolving existing services, evaluating and integrating cutting-edge technologies for future supercomputer generations, and coordinating efforts with partner universities across the HPC.NRW network. Key responsibilities include contributing to the administration of Linux-based HPC systems and providing technical consultation to users. The position requires a degree in Computer Science or equivalent, coupled with deep practical knowledge of Linux, networking, IT security, and programming skills. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to national high-performance computing research in a dynamic, supportive university environment.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Bachelor or Master) in Computer Science or comparable technical qualification

Experience

  • Professional experience in project management
  • Deep practical knowledge in Linux and networking, specifically server system installation, configuration, and administration
  • Foundational programming skills in at least one common programming language
  • Experience in HPC cluster administration (desirable)
  • Experience as a software developer (Web-Frontends, databases, REST-APIs) (desirable)
  • Experience in the implementation of medium-sized IT projects (desirable)
