Job Summary

The University of Greifswald is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join the Institute of Microbiology, specifically the 'Coastal Microbiomes' working group. This role is integral to the new DFG-funded Collaborative Research Centre TRR 420 "CONCENTRATE," focusing on deciphering molecular and microbial processes that stabilize glycans in the ocean. The successful candidate will work on the HOME (A06) sub-project, investigating how phytoplankton-produced glycans influence microbiome composition and carbon sequestration. Key responsibilities include isolating and cultivating phytoplankton, conducting co-cultivation experiments, processing samples using molecular biology techniques, and analyzing complex 'meta-omic' datasets with bioinformatics and biostatistics. This interdisciplinary position offers the opportunity to pursue a PhD and requires a strong background in microbiology, molecular biology, and ecology, along with excellent English proficiency.
