Job Summary

This role involves joining the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) in a multidisciplinary team to assess the environmental impact of offshore wind energy expansion, focusing specifically on marine ornithology. The Officer will be responsible for the technical evaluation, quality assurance, and integration of marine biological and geo-environmental data—particularly concerning sea, resting, and migratory birds—into the FIN MARLIN information network. Key tasks include developing and programming algorithms (using Python, R, SQL) for impact analysis, preparing expert reports for Strategic Environmental Assessments in the North and Baltic Seas, and managing applied marine ecological research projects. This 2-year fixed-term position requires strong expertise in ornithology, proficiency with GIS and database systems (ArcGIS, QGIS, Oracle Spatial), and the ability to work collaboratively across the Hamburg and Rostock locations, involving regular travel.
