Job Summary

The University of Rostock is seeking a Research Associate in Theoretical Physics to join their Statistical Physics group. This role involves cutting-edge research in high-energy-density physics, including the setup of a new cryostat for microwave-optical spectroscopy and conducting ab initio calculations using Density Functional Theory (DFT-MD) to determine properties of warm dense matter. The successful candidate will also calculate equations of state and transport properties for ice-rock mixtures relevant to Neptune-like planets, generate data tables for planetary physics applications, and support experimental campaigns at high-power laser and free-electron laser facilities. A key aspect of the role is publishing research in high-impact journals and coordinating collaborations with international partner institutions. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the High Energy Density Initiative (HEDI) Rostock, structure its theoretical program, and prepare grant proposals for future research funding.
