Job Summary
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oldenburg is seeking an experienced and dedicated Head of the Finance Department to join its leadership team. This pivotal, full-time, permanent role, based in Oldenburg, involves providing disciplinary and technical leadership to approximately 75 employees across multiple finance teams, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Treasury, Budgeting, Annual Financial Statements, and Tax Affairs. The successful candidate will hold overall responsibility for the department's results and service quality, focusing heavily on implementing double-entry accounting (Doppik) principles, managing financial assets, and ensuring compliance with financial and tax regulations. Key responsibilities include strategic conceptual development, process coordination, financial controlling, and leading complex finance and tax projects, such as the introduction of cost and performance accounting. This position requires a strong academic background in finance or economics, profound expertise in public sector accounting, and proven leadership skills, coupled with a commitment to the church's mission and values.
Required Skills
Education
Master's degree or University Diploma in Business Administration, Economics, Political Economy, Administrative Sciences, or a comparable field. IHK Trainer Certification (AEVO) is ideal.
Experience
- Proven professional experience in personnel leadership
- Demonstrated high level of technical expertise in double-entry accounting, asset management, and tax law
- Experience in annual financial statement and balance sheet analysis
- Experience in translating scientific/legal developments into practical implementation
- Experience in leading finance and tax projects (e.g., introducing cost accounting)
- Experience working in committees and interdisciplinary working groups

- Must hold membership in a Christian church that is a member of the Working Group of Christian Churches in Lower Saxony (ACKN). Must possess a Class B driving license. Willingness to work evenings and occasionally on weekends. Must be willing to engage with internal administrative processes and identify with the church's mission.
