Job Summary

The University of Rostock is seeking a Research Associate to join an interdisciplinary excellence research project focused on the physical-chemical and toxicological characterization of motor exhaust gases, specifically investigating the use of ammonia as fuel for ship engines. This is a part-time (26 hours/week) fixed-term position until March 2029, offering the opportunity for scientific qualification (PhD). Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting scientific research, participating in measurement campaigns on research and large engines, and optimizing analytical methods for determining toxicological endpoints. A key focus will be performing toxicological tests on collected particles using Air-liquid Interface or Cloud methods, and evaluating data related to cell toxicity, oxidative stress, genotoxicity, and inflammatory markers. The ideal candidate holds a degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry, possesses practical experience with mammalian cell cultures, and has strong communication skills for collaboration within the interdisciplinary team and presenting results at international conferences.

Required Skills

Education

Completed scientific university degree (State Examination, Diploma, Master, or comparable) in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or comparable field with at least a good result. Opportunity for PhD qualification is offered.
