Job Summary

The University of Rostock is seeking a Research Associate in Analytical Chemistry to join an excellence research project focused on 'Innovative Components and Concepts for NH3 Operation of Ship Engines.' This part-time, fixed-term role (26 hours/week) involves conducting scientific research on the physico-chemical and toxicological characterization of motor exhaust gases when ammonia is used as fuel. Key responsibilities include developing analytical methods for nitrogen-containing organic compounds, real-time characterization of combustion aerosols, and chemical analysis of particle emissions using chromatography and mass spectrometry. The position offers the opportunity for scientific qualification (PhD) within the project framework. Candidates must hold a relevant Master's degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry with a focus on Analytical Chemistry, possess practical experience in instrumental analytical chemistry (especially MS and chromatography), and be fluent in both German and English (B2+). This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to interdisciplinary research on sustainable marine engine technology.

Required Skills

Education

Completed scientific university degree (Master's, Diploma, or equivalent) in Chemistry with a focus on Analytical Chemistry, achieved with at least a good result. Opportunity for PhD qualification is offered.

Experience

  • Practical experience in instrumental analytical chemistry, particularly Mass Spectrometry and Chromatography
  • Desirable experience with physical measurement methods for particles
  • Desirable knowledge in combustion and aerosol chemistry
  • Desirable basic knowledge in programming languages for data analysis (e.g., MATLAB, R, Python, Labview)
