Job Summary
This is a senior-level, permanent position for an outstanding physicist to conduct an independent research program within the Nuclear Astrophysics and Nuclear Structure Department at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum in Darmstadt. The successful candidate will focus on theoretical nuclear astrophysics, specifically strengthening existing activities and fostering collaborations with GSI/FAIR and nearby universities, with expected involvement in FAIR research programs like NUSTAR. Key requirements include an established research record, extensive postdoctoral experience, and expertise in complex modeling techniques such as hydrodynamic simulations of neutron star mergers and/or supernovae, as well as high-performance radiation transport simulations involving neutrinos and/or photons. The role demands strong communication skills and a deep interest in connecting experimental advances with astronomical observations, offering the chance to contribute to world-class science at one of the world's largest research projects, FAIR.
Required Skills
Education
Doctoral degree (PhD) in theoretical nuclear astrophysics or equivalent
Experience
- Established research record in theoretical nuclear astrophysics
- At least five years of postdoctoral experience
- Experience in hydrodynamic modelling of neutron star mergers and/or supernovae
- Experience in high performance radiation transport simulations including neutrinos and/or photons

Additional
- The position is senior level and permanent (unbefristet contract). Must submit a research statement including a proposal for the initial five years.
