Job Summary

The City of Dortmund's Drainage Department is seeking an Engineer specializing in property connection pipelines to contribute to making the city water-sensitive and future-proof. This role is crucial for ensuring proper wastewater disposal by focusing on the drainage of private properties. Day-to-day responsibilities include classifying damages in property connection pipelines based on inspection videos, providing on-site consultation to property owners regarding damage remediation and rainwater management, and acting as the central contact person for citizens concerning private wastewater collection pipes. A key focus involves facilitating the separation of shared private wastewater systems, requiring strong communication and mediation skills to bring property owners together for sustainable solutions. The position requires a degree in Civil Engineering (specializing in Urban Water Management), Environmental Engineering, or related fields, alongside excellent water management knowledge and communication abilities (German C1 minimum). This newly created role offers significant scope for independent initiative, active structure development, and building a future-oriented municipal wastewater consulting concept within a supportive team environment.

Required Skills

Education

Completed degree in Civil Engineering (specialization: Urban Water Management), Environmental Engineering, or comparable studies (e.g., Supply and Disposal Technology, Water Sciences, Sustainable Development).

Experience

  • Professional experience in assessing and classifying damage patterns in private wastewater systems (preferred, but training available)
  • Long-term professional experience as a Sewer Master or Technician in sewer rehabilitation and damage classification of private wastewater pipes (alternative qualification pathway)
  • Experience in conveying technical facts and contexts to non-specialists
