Job Summary

The Max Rubner Institute is seeking a Research Scientist to join the Institute for Safety and Quality in Fruit and Vegetables in Karlsruhe. This is a crucial role within the BLE-funded joint project "VFT4Hero," focusing on developing indoor cultivation strategies and root health management for food plants rich in valuable secondary metabolites. The scientist will be responsible for planning, executing, evaluating, and documenting chemical and microbiological analyses, including LC/MS and GCxGC/MS methods, sample preparation, and statistical data interpretation. Key tasks involve conducting growth experiments with relevant microorganisms, studying fungus-plant interactions at the microbiological/molecular level, and presenting findings at conferences. The ideal candidate holds a Master's degree in Biology or a related field, possesses practical experience with chromatographic techniques (especially HPLC) and sample preparation, and demonstrates strong skills in sterile microbiological and molecular biological work, particularly with filamentous fungi. This fixed-term, part-time position (65%) is ideally suited for candidates pursuing a PhD alongside their employment.
