Job Summary

This role involves supporting a third-party funded research project focused on transferring resistance genes against root-knot nematodes (*Meloidogyne hapla*) and cyst nematodes (*Heterodera carotae*) from wild carrot forms into cultivated carrots for use in organic farming. The Technical Assistant will be responsible for setting up and managing resistance tests in climate chambers and greenhouses, including phenotyping carrot plants by counting galls, cysts, and egg masses. Day-to-day tasks also include essential laboratory work such as DNA isolation and quantification, PCR, and gel electrophoresis. The ideal candidate will have a background as a Technical Assistant or Biological Laboratory Technician, practical experience in phytomedicine, and strong skills in plant handling and experimental setup. This is a challenging, interesting, and diverse part-time position (19.5 hours/week), initially limited until May 31, 2027, offering competitive public sector compensation (TVöD-Ost E6) in a motivated team environment.

Required Skills

Education

Completed vocational training as a Technical Assistant or Biological Laboratory Technician, or equivalent qualification.

Experience

  • Professional experience as a Technical Assistant or Biological Laboratory Technician (preferred)
  • Laboratory experience in the phytomedical field
  • Experience in handling plants and setting up and maintaining experiments (climate chamber)

Languages

German (Fluent)

  • Class III (B) driver's license and willingness to drive a company vehicle.
