Job Summary

This role involves cutting-edge research at the intersection of Educational Science and Artificial Intelligence, focusing on developing and deploying an Educational-AI Agent for automated annotation and coding of qualitative text data, such as transcribed interviews. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, training, and evaluating complex Natural Language Processing (NLP) pipelines to operationalize coding schemes related to inclusion, recognition, and justice within educational contexts. Key tasks include building robust annotation workflows (ideally using INCEpTION), developing AI-supported coding assistance functions (like Active Learning strategies), and conducting systematic evaluations against traditional qualitative methods. This position requires strong expertise in NLP, machine learning (ML), and programming (Python), leading to an independent doctoral dissertation on AI-supported text coding. It offers an opportunity to contribute to the methodological core of a major research center (SFB [in:just]) in a highly interdisciplinary and supportive environment in Frankfurt am Main.

Required Skills

Education

Very good Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline. Doctoral studies (Promotion) is an integral part of the role.

Experience

  • Relevant research experience (e.g., Master's thesis) in NLP/ML/Text Mining
  • Practical experience with Fine-Tuning and Evaluation of modern language models
  • Experience with Annotation & Coding-Workflows and Quality Assurance
  • Ability to develop Human-in-the-Loop strategies
