Job Summary

This position offers a unique opportunity for a highly motivated Computer Scientist to join the DFG-funded Research Training Group "AirMetro" at TUD Dresden University of Technology. The focus of this specific PhD project is the development of fail-safe, distributed digital twins (DTs) crucial for Innovative Air Mobility (IAM) operations in urban environments. The successful candidate will investigate methods for safe drone control by integrating DTs of the urban environment and UAV flight characteristics, while incorporating simulated sensor data (digital shadow) to ensure cyber-physical consistency. Key research involves developing distributed bigraphical world models using Conflict-free Replicated Data Types (Bigraph-CRDT) to enhance system resilience and availability, moving away from centralized cloud dependence. The role also touches upon developing immersive spatial interfaces (AR/VR) for UAM mission planning and swarm management in applications like disaster response and logistics. This is a fixed-term position aimed at obtaining a PhD, offering international collaboration and mentorship.
