Job Summary

This role is for a highly motivated Doctoral Researcher (Biologist) to join a collaborative research laboratory between the Max Planck Society and Heidelberg University, focusing on clinically relevant questions using cutting-edge basic research methods. The core focus is investigating the extracellular matrix, its signaling pathways, and its role in disease, particularly metastasis formation. Day-to-day responsibilities involve characterizing a specific cell type that supports cancer cell engraftment in the bone marrow, analyzing its role in metastasis across different organs, and systematically manipulating relevant molecules in tumor cells or their microenvironment based on cell interactions. The work involves extensive in-vitro studies on primary cells and cancer cell lines, complemented by in-vivo experiments using mouse models. Candidates must have a completed university degree in natural sciences, preferably Biology, Immunology, or Biochemistry, and be prepared for scientifically rigorous, independent, and critical work within a supportive, dynamic, and collegial atmosphere.
