Job Summary

This senior leadership role involves heading Division 40, "Industry and Clusters," within the Department for Economy, Ports, and Transformation in Bremen. The Head of Division is responsible for leading a team of six and setting the strategic direction for the state's industrial, innovation, and cluster policies. Day-to-day tasks include personnel and organizational leadership, developing political strategies for industry and innovation, and managing the implementation of innovation policies funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The role also involves overseeing maritime economy, shipbuilding subsidies, food and beverage, automotive, security/defense, and mechanical engineering sectors. The position requires frequent engagement in committee work and professional travel within Germany and Europe, demanding strong strategic thinking and negotiation skills to manage complex policy matters and external projects.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree (or equivalent University Diploma/Magister) in Economics, Law, Political Science, Administrative Science, or Social Sciences (with a focus on the aforementioned subjects); or completion of the EMMA Master's program (Professional Public Decision Making); or qualification for the second entry-level career path of Career Group 2, General Services.

Experience

  • Experience in the industry, innovation, or cluster policy of a German Federal State
  • Experience in committee work at the state and federal level
  • Leadership experience (advantageous)
  • Professional knowledge of the administrative and political landscape (advantageous)
  • Experience in implementing third-party funded projects from the EU and/or the Federal Government (advantageous)
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategies (advantageous)
  • Experience in leading negotiations (advantageous)
