Job Summary

This role involves developing and implementing a concept for municipal development cooperation within the City of Hanover, focusing on strategic international engagement and sustainable development. Key responsibilities include creating and executing measures for the concept, establishing structures for sustainable anchoring of development cooperation within the city administration, and networking with development policy actors. The officer will also manage information and public relations regarding municipal development cooperation and develop cooperation projects with partner municipalities in the Global South (notably Ukraine and Malawi). The ideal candidate holds a university degree in fields like Political Science or Sustainability Sciences, possesses at least one year of experience in international cooperation, and demonstrates strong project management, networking, and intercultural skills. This is a crucial, fixed-term position aimed at enhancing Hanover's profile as an open and solidarity-driven city.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (e.g., Bachelor, Diplom (FH)) preferably in Political Science, Regional Studies, Geography, or Sustainability Sciences. Focus on sustainable development, development cooperation, and/or international relations is advantageous.

Experience

  • At least 1 year in international cooperation and/or practical experience in internationally active organizations (professional activity and/or internships abroad)
  • Professional experience in municipal development policy (desirable)
  • Experience in building and maintaining networks
  • Experience in communication and public relations

Languages

English (Fluent)

Additional

  • Fixed-term contract for 2 years (starting preferably April 1, 2026). Willingness to attend appointments in the evenings and undertake business trips domestically and abroad.
