Job Summary

The Bavarian Health and Food Safety Authority (LGL) is seeking a Bioinformatician or Computer Scientist with a focus on Life Sciences to join the 'Hygiene' department. This role is crucial for advancing wastewater monitoring and lab-based surveillance in Bavaria, which tracks the dynamics and spread of pathogens using molecular biology and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) data. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing advanced data analysis and reporting tools, establishing and maintaining necessary IT infrastructures, and integrating new systems. The successful candidate will utilize programming languages like Python, R, Java, and SQL, and must have a strong background in data-driven pattern recognition and trend analysis within the biosciences. This position requires excellent organizational skills, experience in scientific publication, and comprehensive German and English language proficiency (German C1 minimum). The role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to public health and consumer protection.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or equivalent (Diplom [Univ.]) in Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science with a Life Sciences focus, or a comparable Life Sciences discipline

Experience

  • Professional experience in the areas mentioned (Data Analysis, Reporting, IT Infrastructure)
  • Experience in developing data analysis and reporting tools within the biosciences
  • Experience in water analysis, microbiology, molecular biology, genome analysis, or metagenome analysis (desirable)
