Job Summary

This part-time, three-year position at the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University Hospital Bonn (UKB) focuses on doctoral research into mitochondrial function. The successful candidate will investigate the molecular mechanisms that coordinate mitochondrial protein import—specifically via the TOM complex—with organellar contacts and cellular metabolism. Daily tasks involve utilizing highly innovative techniques, including robot-based genetic screens, advanced fluorescent imaging, and protein-protein interaction studies coupled with proteomic assays. Researchers will also perform protein stability, aggregation, and disaggregation assays, and reconstitute mitochondrial protein import in cell-free systems. The ideal candidate holds a Master’s or Diploma degree in a relevant scientific field and possesses a strong interest in protein biochemistry and molecular biology. This role offers a supportive, collegial, and international research environment with significant room for creativity and responsibility.
