Job Summary
This challenging role involves applying the transformative potential of quantum computing to address critical challenges in climate resilience and water security through the advanced simulation of complex hydrological systems within the qFLOW project at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ). The successful candidate will be responsible for the Hamiltonian reformulation of various catchment hydrological systems, ranging from simple synthetic models to realistic cases, and conducting performance tests against classical solvers. Key tasks also include defining and simulating selected hydrological extreme cases, such as droughts. The ideal candidate holds a university degree or doctorate in theoretical physics, quantum physics, mathematics, or informatics, coupled with advanced programming skills in Python and/or Fortran. This position offers the chance to work in interdisciplinary, international teams, leveraging excellent research infrastructure and flexible working hours, while contributing to global challenges.
