Job Summary

This Principal Research Scientist I role serves as the Technical Lead for Container Closure Systems (CCS) within the Global Material and Parenteral Packaging Science team. The successful candidate will provide advanced technical expertise across the development and life cycle of primary packaging components, including vials, prefilled syringes, and cartridges, ensuring their protection, safety, and performance attributes through comprehensive analysis and evaluation. Daily tasks involve leading packaging selection and qualification for sterile dosage forms, developing component specifications, supporting internal/external tech transfer, and ensuring continuity of supply for marketed products. A key responsibility is partnering with device development teams to ensure system-level requirements for combination products are developed, verified, and validated in alignment with design controls. The role requires expert knowledge of CCS materials, E&L concepts, and a profound understanding of quality and regulatory requirements in a cGMP environment, coupled with strong leadership skills to manage global multi-functional teams.

Required Skills

Education

M.Sc. or Diploma degree, or PhD in Parenteral Manufacturing, Product Quality, Analytical, Material Sciences, or related fields.

Experience

  • 12+ years of professional experience with an M.Sc. or Diploma in a relevant scientific field
  • 6+ years of professional experience with a PhD in a relevant scientific field
  • Practical experience and strong knowledge of Parenteral Fill finish processes (preferred)
  • Expert knowledge and practical experience in container closure systems
  • Experience in successfully establishing and managing cross-functional teams in a manufacturing setting
