Job Summary

The City of Essen is seeking two Data Scientists to join the ESH - Essener Systemhaus - team, focusing on shaping the digital future of the city's operations. This role involves comprehensive data processing and engineering tasks, including preparing unstructured data, analyzing and processing large datasets, and integrating disparate data sources for information extraction and visualization. A core responsibility is the development and implementation of various AI applications and dashboards aimed at optimizing customer processes, alongside supporting Robotic Process Automation (RPA) initiatives. Candidates must possess a background in IT, mathematics, or a related field, coupled with specific professional experience as an AI Engineer or Data Scientist. Essential skills include Python and SQL programming, knowledge of DevOps/MLOps practices for deploying AI products, and experience with JavaScript frameworks for full-stack development. The position offers flexibility, including mobile working options, within a secure public sector environment.

Required Skills

Education

Completed degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or a comparable field; or Completed Administrative Course II (with focus on IT or Digital); or Completed vocational training as an IT Specialist or other IT-related training plus required professional experience.

Experience

  • At least three years of professional experience as an AI Engineer/Data Scientist in a comparable field
  • Professional experience in IT (Partial) Project Management (classical and/or agile project management)
  • Professional experience in IT Service Management (ITIL) or willingness to become certified
  • Minimum seven years of professional experience if holding a vocational qualification (e.g., IT Specialist)
