Job Summary

This doctoral research position, based within the prestigious Cluster of Excellence “Balance of the Microverse,” focuses on investigating the fundamental mechanisms of cellular aging (senescence and rejuvenation) in microbial communities, particularly planktonic microalgae. The successful candidate will integrate the advanced toolbox of analytical chemistry with biological experimentation to uncover critical chemical signals and biological processes driving these dynamics. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing complex laboratory experiments, conducting metabolomic data mining, operating state-of-the-art analytical and microscopical equipment, and potentially undertaking fieldwork at marine stations. The role requires analyzing project results, generating figures, writing scientific manuscripts for publication, and presenting findings at international conferences. This is an attractive opportunity for highly motivated individuals with an MSc in relevant biological or chemical sciences who seek structured, interdisciplinary training in a cutting-edge research environment.
