Job Summary

This is a key leadership role as Head of the IT Department for the City of Offenburg, focusing on driving digitalization and ensuring a stable, secure, and future-proof IT infrastructure for 63,000 citizens. The successful candidate will lead a department of 15 employees across two teams, overseeing the entire lifecycle of major IT projects from planning to successful implementation. Responsibilities include actively shaping the development of a modern IT department, promoting digitalization, and developing practical, efficient IT solutions with significant autonomy. Ideal candidates possess a Master’s degree in Computer Science or a comparable field, coupled with several years of professional and leadership experience, strong strategic thinking, project management skills, and an appreciative leadership style. This position offers an indefinite contract, competitive public sector compensation (TVöD EG 14), flexible working hours, and the option for partial remote work.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a comparable field, OR a Bachelor's degree with equivalent abilities acquired through professional experience.

Experience

  • Several years of professional experience in IT
  • Several years of leadership and professional experience (if possessing a Bachelor's degree)
  • Experience in leading projects, teams, and budgets
