Job Summary
The German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Bremerhaven is seeking a Team Lead to spearhead research and development in distributed cooperative systems, focusing on robotics, AI, and computer science for maritime security. This role involves leading a dynamic, interdisciplinary team of software developers, data scientists, and systems engineers to create resilient, autonomous underwater, surface, and aerial systems. The core focus is on researching and developing distributed decision architectures and cooperative swarm strategies for autonomous systems in critical maritime contexts. Day-to-day tasks include defining and managing R&D projects, developing system architectures, coordinating integration with navigation/sensor networks, and presenting research findings to industry partners and international networks. This position requires a strong scientific background in engineering or natural sciences, deep experience in autonomous systems development, and proven leadership capabilities in a research-intensive environment, offering a unique opportunity to shape the future of maritime infrastructure protection.
Required Skills
Education
Completed scientific university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Engineering or Natural Sciences (e.g., Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics) or another relevant field
Experience
- Relevant experience in the development of autonomous systems, AI-supported robotics, and/or intelligent multi-agent systems
- In-depth experience in the conception and implementation of complex experiments, prototypes, and system tests
- Proven scientific or engineering excellence (e.g., through a PhD or leadership position in research-related industry)
- Relevant experience in guiding scientific-technical work (e.g., technical leadership in projects or supervising thesis work)
- Long-term experience working with interdisciplinary teams and/or external partners
