Job Summary

This role is based in Oberschleißheim within the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL), an interdisciplinary authority focused on 'One Health.' The successful candidate will join the Public Health Microbiology division, working in an accredited medical diagnostic laboratory specializing in human virology, molecular biology, mycobacteriology, and infection serology. Key responsibilities include contributing to and developing the Bavaria Influenza and Corona Sentinel programs, advancing laboratory automation procedures, and conducting troubleshooting in collaboration with external manufacturers. The position involves generating and analyzing molecular epidemiological and infection serological data, performing laboratory work (focusing on PCR, melting curve analysis, and serology), and assisting with laboratory organization and quality management. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional with strong molecular biology expertise to contribute directly to public health and consumer protection efforts in Bavaria.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Master's or equivalent Diploma) in Natural Sciences, potentially with a PhD

Experience

  • Experience in molecular biological methods
  • Experience in new molecular technologies
  • Experience with the automation of laboratory devices and/or procedures
  • Experience with human virological tests and result interpretations
  • Experience working in S2 and S3 laboratories
  • Experience in conducting research, project management, presentations, and creating scientific publications
