Job Summary

This is a strategic leadership role focused on establishing, operating, and continuously developing the Independent Trust Office at University Medicine Münster. The primary objective is ensuring the legal and data protection compliant use of personal health data for both patient care and research, particularly in line with the new Health Data Utilization Act (GDNG) and GDPR. Day-to-day responsibilities include the technical and strategic management of the unit, leading staff, implementing privacy laws, managing identity systems (including pseudonymization and anonymization concepts for sensitive data), and advising researchers on data flows and consent management. The successful candidate must possess a relevant scientific university degree (e.g., Data Science, Medical Informatics, or Law) and significant professional experience in data protection, research data management, or similar structures, offering the unique opportunity to shape a critical new central governance unit.

Required Skills

Education

Scientific university degree in Informatics, Medical Informatics, Data Science, Medicine, Epidemiology, Public Health, Law (especially Data Protection Law), or a comparable field.

Experience

  • Relevant professional experience in Trust Offices, Data Protection, Research Data Management, Biobanks, or comparable structures
  • Profound knowledge of Data Protection Law (GDPR, national health data laws, ideally GDNG)
  • Experience with pseudonymization and anonymization concepts for sensitive personal health data
  • Ideally, leadership experience or experience in establishing new organizational units
