Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate to join the Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Greifswald for a fixed-term, part-time (75%) position focused on cutting-edge Bioinformatics research. The successful candidate will contribute to a DFG-funded project centered on inferring alternative splicing using Deep Learning methods, specifically utilizing PacBio long-read transcriptomic data, and studying isoform evolution in insects. Day-to-day tasks involve designing, training, and benchmarking Deep Learning sequence-to-sequence architectures, implementing novel Machine Learning components, and applying tools for genome analysis. This role is highly interdisciplinary, requiring strong programming skills in Python and a solid mathematical foundation in Machine Learning, offering a unique chance to pursue a PhD within this specialized research area.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Biomathematics, Computer Science, Biology, or a related field. Opportunity for PhD studies is offered.

Experience

  • Experience with Unix-Shell, Git, PyTorch, TensorFlow, SLURM is desired
  • Experience handling genome or transcriptome data is desired
  • Knowledge of Sequence-to-Sequence models (HMMs, Attention, RNNs) is desired
  • Research experience in Bioinformatics or related field
