Job Summary
The INM – Leibniz Institute for New Materials is seeking a highly motivated PhD Student to join the Energy Materials Group in Saarbrücken, Germany, focusing on next-generation electrochemical lithium-ion recovery for water remediation and recycling. This role involves the synthesis and characterization of ion-selective electrode materials, such as lithium-iron phosphate, and the optimization of electrochemical desalination cells and processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading experimental work, conducting electrochemical characterization and performance benchmarking, and preparing data for publications and presentations. This position offers a unique opportunity to conduct pioneering research in an international, interdisciplinary environment, collaborating closely with academic and industry partners, and leading to a graduation from Saarland University.
Required Skills
Education
M.Sc. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Energy Materials, or a related field
Experience
- Experience with desalination technologies and ion separation
- Experience with electrochemical methods and material characterization
- Ability to work as a member of an international, multi-disciplinary team

- Contract limited to three years (with possible extension)
