Job Summary

This role involves leading and managing diverse scientific and infrastructural construction projects at the German Electron Synchrotron (DESY) campus in Hamburg, focusing on the development of the 'Future-Proof Campus' and preparations for the PETRA IV project. The Project Manager will be responsible for advising internal scientific groups on defining construction requirements, developing partial concepts, and ensuring continuous coordination among all internal and external planning stakeholders. Key duties include creating and tracking cost estimates and schedules, overseeing site management for sub-projects, and coordinating procurement procedures (VGV) for planners in collaboration with the DESY purchasing department. The ideal candidate must possess a degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on civil or structural engineering, extensive practical experience in complex construction environments, and strong knowledge of German construction regulations (HOAI, VOB). Success in this role requires leadership competence, negotiation skills, and excellent communication in both German and English.

Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) or equivalent in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering

Experience

  • Extensive practical professional experience in civil/structural engineering
  • Extensive practical professional experience in the implementation and planning support of inner-city road, civil, and traffic construction measures
  • Professional experience in project management
  • Foundational expertise in the design and construction of facilities with a focus on civil and structural engineering, particularly in a scientific research campus environment
