Job Summary

This is a unique opportunity for a highly motivated scientist to pursue a PhD in Biology at the Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, focusing on molecular and chemical analysis of insects, specifically ants. The successful candidate will be responsible for organizing and conducting complex molecular biology (RNA sequencing/transcriptomics) and chemical analyses (HPLC/proteomics), alongside field and lab experiments involving live animals. Key responsibilities also include the advanced analysis of gathered genomic and molecular data, supervising student helpers, and preparing scientific publications primarily in English. This part-time (65%), three-year fixed-term position requires a Master's degree in Biology or a related field, coupled with prior experience in insect genomics, transcriptomics, or proteomics techniques, offering a structured path toward obtaining a doctoral degree.

Education

Master's degree (MSc/Diploma) in Biology or a related scientific field

Experience

  • Prior knowledge and/or experience with techniques and analyses in proteomics, transcriptomics, and/or genomics of insects is desirable
  • Experience with DNA/RNA extraction and analysis
  • Experience with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)
  • Experience with High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
  • Knowledge of handling insects is desirable
