Job Summary

The Cluster of Excellence ROOTS at Kiel University is seeking a part-time Research Associate (50% position) specializing in Archaeobotany, with a contract extending until the end of the funding phase in December 2032. This role focuses on conducting archaeobotanical investigations into human-environment interaction, reconstructing plant economy and nutrition of past societies across various scales, particularly within the JMA research field. Key responsibilities include scientific processing, evaluation, and presentation of archaeobotanical and paleoecological data from ongoing projects, as well as managing case studies and existing datasets. Qualified candidates must possess a scientific university degree in Archaeobotany, Biology, Prehistory, or equivalent, coupled with expertise in paleoethnobotany, field research, microscopy, statistical methods (uni-, bi-, and multivariate), GIS, and basic programming (e.g., R). This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to interdisciplinary research bridging archaeology, natural sciences, and humanities.
