Job Summary

This role involves leading the technical operations and development of the entire technological and metrological infrastructure within the High-Frequency Systems department at the University of Wuppertal. The Technical Lead ensures the uninterrupted and safe operation of advanced laboratory facilities, including DFG equipment centers and large-scale devices like broadband optoelectronic testers and 6G laboratory equipment (AWG, high-frequency oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers). Day-to-day tasks include managing and overseeing construction projects, performing complex metrological analysis of operational disturbances, and independently organizing the installation, maintenance, and repair of laboratory systems (electronics, vacuum, climate control). A crucial aspect is developing custom software solutions for controlling laboratory equipment using languages like C++ and Python, conducting chip-packaging processes (wire bonding, board design), and ensuring comprehensive laboratory safety compliance (chemical, electrical, laser safety) in both German and English.

Required Skills

Education

Technical university degree (FH Diploma or Bachelor) in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related disciplines, OR completed vocational training as an Industrial Mechanic or Mechatronics Technician with further qualification to Master or Technician level.

Experience

  • 3 years of practical experience in the advertised area (required for university degree holders)
  • Professional experience in laboratory systems maintenance and repair
  • Experience with workplace safety regulations (ArbSchG, ArbStättV, BetrSichV, GefStoffV)
  • Experience in developing and repairing electronic circuits
  • Experience in guiding and supervising maintenance work by external and internal personnel
