Job Summary

The Institute of Physiology at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg is seeking highly motivated PhD students (Biologists, Biochemists, Engineers, or related fields) to join the Neurophysiology and Optogenetics research group. This role focuses on investigating how 'top-down' systems, which integrate attention, expectation, and experience, modulate sensory information processing in the brain, using the mouse olfactory system as a model. Day-to-day work involves executing DFG-funded research projects, utilizing advanced neuroscientific methods such as high-resolution imaging, electrophysiological recordings, and optogenetic manipulations to observe and alter neuronal activity at the single-cell level in real-time. Key techniques include in vivo two-photon microscopy, calcium imaging, and behavioral experiments. Candidates must possess a strong background in neuroscience, a completed degree in a relevant scientific discipline, and the ability to thrive in a multidisciplinary, stimulating research environment with international cooperation opportunities.
