Job Summary
This is a high-impact leadership role focused on environmental protection and flood control, specifically managing the cross-state 'Lenzer Wische Flooding Polder' project under the National Flood Protection Program (NHWSP). The specialist will lead the joint project office for the states of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Lower Saxony, and Brandenburg, overseeing the entire initiative from planning through potential construction. Key daily tasks include organizing and coordinating the office, maintaining intensive communication with the inter-ministerial steering group, managing stakeholders, handling public relations, and coordinating land management. This role requires strong negotiation and organizational skills, expertise in hydraulic engineering and water management, and the ability to guide planning, approval procedures, and procurement processes for major infrastructure projects aimed at capping extreme Elbe flood events. This position offers a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to contribute directly to regional flood resilience in Wittenberge.
Required Skills
Education
Successfully completed scientific university degree (Master/Diplom) in relevant fields, specifically Civil Engineering, Water Management, Landscape Planning, Geosciences, or comparable studies, or equivalent abilities and experience, or corresponding civil service qualification for the higher service.
Experience
- Knowledge in water management, hydraulic engineering, flood protection, or flood risk management
- Experience in leading and managing large projects (advantageous)
- Experience in stakeholder management and public relations (advantageous)
- Initial experience or ability to lead and guide employees (advantageous)
- Driving experience and possession of a valid car driver's license (required)

Additional
- Must be medically suitable, resilient, and willing to work outdoors in the field, on and in bodies of water, and in all weather conditions. Must possess a valid car driver's license and driving experience, and be able to safely operate an official vehicle in the field. Non-German degrees require official translation and assessment by the ZAB or ANABIN.
