Job Summary

This role involves supporting critical marine research within the LiMare consortium, focusing on developing environmentally friendly methods for extracting raw materials from seawater. The Technical Assistant will primarily conduct incubation experiments using sediment cores and the overlying water column to perform comprehensive risk assessments for new technology. Daily tasks include implementing various experimental approaches, performing cell counts, and conducting taxonomic, functional, and chemical analyses using classical microbiological and molecular biological lab techniques. The position requires a certified lab technician background (Biology or Chemistry) with strong experience in sterile lab work and microbial cultivation. This is an attractive opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge oceanographic and climate research, working directly on the Kiel Fjord in an international environment.

Required Skills

Education

Completed vocational training as a Biological Laboratory Technician, Chemical-Technical Assistant, Biological-Technical Assistant, or equivalent qualification

Experience

  • Professional experience in classical microbiological methods
  • Professional experience in molecular biological methods
  • Experience working under sterile laboratory conditions
  • Experience with microbial cultivation techniques
  • Willingness to participate in seagoing expeditions
  • Practical field and ship experience (desirable)
