Job Summary

This role involves establishing and leading a junior research group focused on innovative process technology for materials used in nuclear fusion reactors at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). The successful candidate will build a new research field, secure third-party funding, and supervise doctoral, master's, and bachelor's students. Day-to-day tasks include teaching, participating in academic self-governance, and actively networking with scientific and engineering research groups, particularly within the Bavarian Fusion Cluster and planned Fusion Campus. This position requires an excellent doctorate and proven expertise in materials science and engineering, coupled with experience in interdisciplinary project work and grant acquisition. The six-year position is critical to the Bavarian State Government's Master Plan for Nuclear Fusion, focusing on developing materials that withstand extreme conditions like heat flux, radiation, and corrosion.
