Job Summary

This role is a fixed-term research position within the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin, focusing on advanced gas analytics, specifically the determination of impurities in ammonia as part of the EU-funded EPM project MetNH3Energy. The successful candidate will be responsible for the dynamic and gravimetric preparation of primary reference gas mixtures, optimizing these preparation methods, and developing and validating trace analysis methods using advanced techniques like laser spectroscopy and gas chromatography. Key requirements include a PhD in Chemistry or a comparable field, fundamental knowledge of quantitative trace analysis, and practical experience with instrumental gas analysis methods and handling hazardous substances like ammonia. This is a highly specialized opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research in material science and chemistry, contributing directly to technical safety and publishing results in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Required Skills

Education

Master's/Diploma degree in Chemistry or comparable field, and a very good PhD (Doctorate)

Experience

  • Successful completion of a PhD in Chemistry or a comparable scientific field
  • Fundamental knowledge in quantitative trace analysis
  • Practical experience with instrumental gas analysis methods (Laser Spectroscopy, GC)
  • Experience in handling hazardous substances (e.g., NH3)
  • Experience with publishing and presenting scientific results
  • Desirable experience in handling gases
