Job Summary

This 36-month doctoral position, based in Berlin, focuses on critical research within the DFG project ImPatienCe, dedicated to developing ductile ceramics for patient-specific implants. The successful candidate will execute comprehensive experimental measurements on ceramic composites utilizing advanced laboratory and synchrotron X-ray sources, including localized X-ray refraction, computed tomography, and X-ray/Neutron diffraction. Responsibilities also include electron microscopy (REM, TEM, EBSD), quantitative data evaluation, and the further development of existing in-situ loading devices. This role requires a Master's degree in Physics or a related field, strong foundational knowledge of ceramics, and experience with imaging and diffraction techniques. The position offers a unique opportunity to achieve a doctorate while collaborating within national and international research networks at the prestigious Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM).

Required Skills

Education

Completed scientific university degree (Master's equivalent) in Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or comparable. Must pursue a PhD.

Experience

  • Professional experience in materials science research
  • Experience conducting experiments using laboratory X-ray sources and Synchrotron radiation sources
  • Knowledge in Wide-Angle X-ray Diffractometry (WAXD) and residual stress assessment
  • Experience in scientific communication (reports, publications, conferences)
